Travelling with Pets- Animal Health Certificate

Animal Health Certificate
An animal health certificate will be needed if you are planning on travelling abroad (within the EU and Northern Ireland) with your pet. Up to 5 pets can be added.

If your pet already has an up-to-date rabies vaccination, then you must get the certificate within the 10 days before you travel. If, however, your pet requires a rabies vaccination, then you must get them vaccinated before this can be done. After the vaccination, you must wait 21 days before you are able to get an animal health certificate. The first day of the 21 is the day AFTER the vaccination.

To get your animal health certificate, you must take your animal to see your vet. You will need proof of your pet’s microchipping date and vaccination history.

After the date of issue, the certificate will be valid for:

  • 10 days (entry into EU or Northern Ireland)
  • 4 months for onward travel within the EU
  • 4 months for re-entry to Great Britain

A new certificate will be needed for each trip into the EU or Northern Ireland.

Make sure to give your vet a heads up that you are needing a certificate, so they are able to prepare it for you!
